In 1969 seeding machine (trade name: Bufalo) for no-tillage was imported to Rio Grande do Sul University for the first time from U.S.A. by agreement between MEC and USAID, and solgo was cultivated by no-tillage in the field of one hectare. No-tillage of wheat was carried out at Experiment Station of Agricultural Ministry (IPEAME) in Londrina, Parana, and soybean was cultivated also in Ponta Grossa Experiment Station in Parana State in 1971. In 1972 the research conserning to the no-tillage started in Ponta Grossa Experiment Station, with support of ICI (Borges, 1993). The experiment of no-tillage started also in Rio Grande do Sul state in 1973 and at Campinas of Sao Paulo State in 1976. As shown in Table 1, the area of no-tillage amounted to 54,000 ha to 57,000 ha in the latter half of 1970s and 200,000 ha in 1980/81. As mentioned above, the area of no-tillage spreaded early in the Southern States of Brazil. On the contrary, the start of no-tillage in Cerrado Region was in 1982/83, and area expance was found at least in the beginning of the 1990's, as shown in Table 1. Accordingly, the history of no-tillage in Cerrados is very short. As of 1994/95, the area of no-tillage in Cerrado Region is 24% of Brazil as shown in Table 1. Therefore, the knowledges of no-tillage in Cerrado, such as weeds control, maintenance of mulching material, soil-plant relation and compression of surface soil, is very few (Ike, 1984, Yoshida et al., 1991). In this paper, the results of observation on changes in soil characteristics...
